MeltRite by MPH

Superior fuel efficiency and extremely close temperature control is accomplished in the MPH MeltRite furnace by controlling the areas of heat loss in the furnace as well as the metal temperature. The heat loss areas include the exhaust flue, slag (or drain) port, furnace walls and bath surface. The slag port, that would be open only in emergency situations, and the use of ceramic fiber insulation in the furnace side walls solve two of the heat-loss problem areas. For the bath surface, insulated covers are available for use during non-productive periods. The cast-iron insulated drip ring is designed to allow a small amount of exhaust gases to come up and over he crucible walls to assist in melting any exposed cold metal as well as maintain a hot ladling surface.

The main influencing design factor is in the sophisticated control of combustion, both in the transmission of heat to the metal and in control of the exhaust products. A micro-ratio valve system is used for position-proportioning control during all phases of the melting and holding operations. This tight control works in conjunction with the automatic flue damper which opens or closes proportionately with the combustion system. In addition, the furnace is equipped with the cascade control consisting of a two-loop control instrument; heating chamber and bath temperature thermocouples provide inputs in conjunction with each other. As the metal temperature approaches set point, the burner input is reduced, lowering the chamber temperature so that a state of equilibrium is reached when the bath temperature set point is satisfied. The results are reduced temperature overshoot during meting operations and excellent temperature control during the holding phases.

Combustion system include a sealed-in medium velocity burner, causing a slight back pressure and preventing entry of free air. The burner is aimed tangentially at the furnace lining, providing extra combustion space at the bottom and preventing unequal heating of the crucible or pot. In addition to the combustion components previously mentioned, the furnace is equipped with a spark-ignited pilot, UV flame detector, combustion air blower and the necessary valves, pressure switches, regulators, etc. for complete combustion control and to meet F.M. or I.R.I. insurance specifications.

Refractory lining is comprised of MPH's exclusive Moldatherm™ vacuum-molded ceramic fiber rings backed up with additional insulation to minimize heat losses, increase furnace efficiency and maximize operator comfort.

Control panel is a NEMA 12, wall-mounted type, completely wired and assembled with all necessary components including temperature controllers, fused disconnect switch, blower motor starter, purge timer, flame detector relay, etc.

Optional items include a metal leak-detector system with an automatic-opening slag port door and a choice of cover mechanisms.

Standard design accommodates either a crucible or cast-iron port.

Easy installation. Furnace is completely piped, wired, assembled, and test-fired prior to shipment resulting in relatively easy installation at the site. Fork-lift channels assist in moving the furnace into position.
